  3. Structure: Organizing information effectively. Use structured tags, consider the order of information, and leverage native tool-calling APIs.
  4. Cache Discipline: Optimizing for KV-cache hit rates to reduce latency and cost. Be mindful of changes that can invalidate the cache.
  5. Evaluation: Closing the loop on every context change with thorough evaluations to measure the impact of modifications.

Why Teams Struggle with Context Engineering

  • Invisibility: The work is often unseen and doesn’t result in flashy demos.
  • Organizational Gap: It falls between product and engineering responsibilities.
  • Lack of Training: There’s no formal education on context engineering.
  • Slow Compounding: Gains are gradual and require patience.
